UAE to launch first NFT stamps in the Middle East
In honor of the 50th anniversary of UAE National Day, the Emirates Post Group (EPG) has released the first set of a physical postage stamp and its digital equivalent in the Middle East region.
On UAE National Day, December 2, the EPG will unveil a new generation of postage stamps to the public. The four innovative brands will have a digital twin that is slated to be sold as digital collectibles tied to a physical counterpart.
Each of the four brands has a distinct design based on a national UAE theme. Enthusiasts will be able to collect, trade and sell stamps issued in the form of NFT. Abdulla Mohammed Alashram, CEO of the Emirates Post Group, said:
“In line with EPG’s strategy to transform into a digital company, we are proud to announce the launch of the region’s first blockchain brands. In this way, we are closing the gap between traditional brands and the world of digital assets. ”
Four stamps
The first is a premium brand called Golden Jubilee 2021, which contains a gram of pure gold.
The second stamp is called “Spirit of the Union – 1971” and symbolizes the creation of the nation by the founding fathers of the UAE.
The third stamp is “Year of the 50s – 2021”.
The fourth stamp is “Projects of the 50s – 2071”, reflecting the futuristic vision of the UAE.
Buyers will be able to see the digital design by scanning the QR code printed on the face of the brand. The stamp contains a built-in NFC chip for verifying the uniqueness of a digital mark using any smartphone with an NFC reader. Users who have a cryptocurrency wallet will be able to add the NFT to their balance as a collectible.
Earlier, the National Postal Service of Switzerland (Swiss Post) announced that, together with Inacta, it plans to issue about 175,000 cryptocurrency stamps, of which 65,000 stamps will be produced in a widespread digital design, and 50 copies will have a special cryptocurrency design. On launch day, the official website of the Swiss Post could not stand the influx of buyers of cryptocurrency postage stamps.
