The free economic zone (FEZ) of Honduras Próspera ZEDE intends to attract international investment by issuing bonds for bitcoins.
Próspera ZEDE, located on the island of Roatan in the Caribbean, has announced that it accepts cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. From now on, local governments and international companies that are residents of the FEZ can issue bonds based on bitcoin under the jurisdiction of Próspera ZEDE in accordance with international KYC and AML standards.
SEZ managers are confident that in this way they have launched the process of creating an affordable tool for attracting foreign direct investment and stimulating the economic development of Honduras. Accredited investors will be able to invest in resident companies in accordance with US legal and regulatory standards, receiving capital in the form of security tokens.
Permission to use bitcoin as a payment instrument applies to both individuals and legal entities in the FEZ. Operations with cryptocurrencies are not subject to taxation. Próspera accepts payment of taxes and fees in bitcoin. The jurisdiction of the zone allows residents to engage in cryptocurrency activities based on international AML and KYC standards.
Recall that the authorities of Honduras, following El Salvador, in March of this year began to consider the possibility of recognizing bitcoin as legal tender. This was reported on Twitter by President Xiomara Castro of Honduras. However, the Central Bank of Honduras denied the existence of plans to legalize bitcoin. The authorities have so far decided to limit themselves to launching a pilot cryptocurrency project within the jurisdiction of Próspera ZEDE.
