MAC Cosmetics, together with the blockchain company ConsenSys, will issue a set of non-fungible tokens to help those infected with HIV.
The Canadian cosmetics brand will release the NFT collection at Polygon and dedicate it to artist Keith Haring. The collection will have 5,275 NFTs divided into several price categories. All proceeds from the sale of tokens will have to go to support young people affected by HIV and AIDS.
Keith Haring was an American artist who rose to fame in the 80s. When he found out that he had AIDS, he began to draw graffiti in order to clearly communicate information about the disease to people and warn the younger generation. He died in 1990.
The works are animated illustrations created in Haring’s style. They are divided into three types: red NFTs with a circulation of 5,000 pieces for $25, blue 250 pieces for $150, and 25 yellow ones for $1,000.
Johnna Powell, global co-lead of ConsenSys NFT, assured that 100% of the proceeds will go to charity. The money will be managed by the non-profit MAC Viva Glam Foundation, which is directly involved in helping HIV-infected people. However, the company also hopes to attract new users to the MetaMask wallet with the help of the promotion.
Earlier it became known that Ross Ulbrich, the former owner of the Silk Road darknet trading platform, announced that he would present his NFT work at the upcoming Bitcoin 2022 conference.
