The Bathhouse, located in Brooklyn, New York, told its Instagram followers that it uses mining rigs to heat water.
“Fun fact! Did you know that our pools are heated by waste energy from bitcoin mining?” Bathhouse wrote on the social network.
Bathhouse has bitcoin mining rigs that generate heat as a by-product. The post describes how heat is collected and used to heat pools through a circulating system.
The opinions of subscribers were divided. Some praised the innovative approach.
“Thank you for the smart use of energy,” wrote one user.
However, there were those who noted the harm of mining for the environment. Also, some asked who exactly receives income from mining.
“Because of this, I began to respect your bath less. I am worried about who is mining this cryptocurrency, who is profiting from it. We need transparency,” wrote another subscriber.
Recall that the Canadian company Heatmine has long developed and is testing a solution with which the heat generated by mining devices will be used for heating, which will help reduce the cost of mining cryptocurrencies.
The co-founder of the Czech cryptocurrency exchange NakamotoX, Kamil Breiha, launched a startup a few years ago that grows crops using the heat generated by mining cryptocurrencies.
