According to Bloomberg, Google is forming a new team that will develop blockchain and “related technologies”. The group will be led by Shivakumar Venkatamaran.
Bloomberg reports that Shivakumar Venkatamaran previously served as vice president of technology at Alphabet Inc. The group will focus on blockchain and other “next-generation technologies for distributed computing and data storage.” The team will be part of a division that develops in the field of virtual and augmented reality.
As one of the Google sources told the publication, the blockchain project development team will be quite small compared to groups working in other areas. It is worth noting that until now, Google has eschewed the blockchain. Although it offered several cloud solutions based on this technology, the company did not launch larger projects.
Other technology companies. such as Twitter and Meta are focusing a lot on distributed ledger technology. Recall that Meta is aggressively poaching employees from competing firms Apple and Microsoft to create a metaverse.
