Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in Jiangsu Province has renamed its Department of Information Engineering to “Metaverse Engineering Department”.
The dean of the renamed faculty, Pan Zhigeng, said the move will identify business needs and train metaverse experts for companies in the field. According to Zhigeng, the metaverse is now an integration of a wide range of technologies and applications, such as the Internet of Things, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and smart healthcare.
Metaverse Engineering students will be prepared to work in three different areas including smart health, smart education, and digital tourism. To promote the university in these areas, three working groups will be established: the Metaverse Research Institute, the Smart Meteorology Research Institute, and the Smart Medicine Research Institute.
The training of specialists from the metaverse is gradually becoming a global trend. This month, a leading player in the Meta market partnered with Victoryxr to develop metaverses to educate students at ten American universities. A little later, the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) announced a collaboration with the TimesPro online learning platform to create educational programs on blockchain, cryptocurrencies, NFT and Web3.
Earlier, the Wharton School of Business of the Ivy League at the University of Pennsylvania announced that its Aresty Institute for Executive Education will launch a “Business in the Metaverse Economy” certification program.
