The Danish giant Lego has unveiled plans to create a virtual world with the support of Epic Games, one of the influential companies in the gaming industry, creator of the online game Fortnite.
Lego has promised that its users will be able to create sets in the metaverse.
“We know very well how to immerse customers in the Lego universe in our stores. We are working very hard to create a digital immersive experience for the Lego brand,” said Lego CEO Niels Christiansen.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney assured that the Lego brand “aligns perfectly with the vision of the Epic metaverse.” The Lego Metaverse will be built using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, which powers many popular video games.
Back in 2021, Lego invested $2 billion into Epic Games to develop the metaverse. The company previously announced a possible cooperation with this developer.
Currently, Decentraland (300,000 monthly users), The Sandbox (30,000 users) and Cryptovoxels (less than 25,000 users) are considered among the most popular metaverses.
In July, Epic Games announced that it would not follow the example of Steam and Mojang and would not ban NFT and blockchain-enabled games on its site.
