The Otherside project has demonstrated the possibilities of its own virtual platform for land owners in Otherdeed and developers.
The metaverse team created by Yuga Labs invited 4,300 players for a first tech demo of the online platform. The virtual travelers were accompanied by a monkey avatar from the Yuga Labs collection.
The tour participants who visited Biogenic Swamp were either land deed holders at Otherdeed or select developers of the studio’s other projects. Otherdeed owners were able to tour the 11-part game Voyager’s Journey “around a mysterious obelisk that appeared in the Otherside universe.”
The light version of the Metaverse White Paper states that in the first phase, Otherdeed owners will be able to contribute to building the platform and shape its core capabilities as co-developers using the Otherside Development Kit.
“We believe in the extraordinary power of the community and have seen first hand that it can be a significant force for good. We aim to stimulate, expand the possibilities of self-expression, creativity and ingenuity for the community of Otherside members, ”the document says.
The light version of the White Paper mentions the term interoperability. This property of the user’s avatar is free to move through various numerous virtual worlds or gaming platforms that can potentially form a global metaverse.
Proponents of an “open metaverse” such as the Yuga Labs team see interoperability as key to the spirit of a democratized and accessible Internet of the future. In the paper, they warn of the risks that mega-corporations like Meta (formerly Facebook) monopolize virtual space. The giants may try to keep clear boundaries in order to maintain control over user data and analytics, they said.
Yuga Labs co-founder Gordon Goner said on Twitter that Otherside is in direct competition with the “giants of Web2”, expressing optimism that “the future leans towards an open, interoperable metaverse.”
The market of metauniverses has long become mainstream, and even the authorities of world powers see the prospects for its development. The Shanghai authorities recently announced that they are investing $52 billion in the metaverse industry.
