Space Runners has raised money to create a metaverse dedicated to the fashion industry.
Startup Space Runners, created to develop the fashion industry in the metaverse, has raised $10 million in the first round of funding. The investment round was led by Pantera Capital and Polychain. Also participating in the round were Accel and Jump Crypto, as well as Animoca Brands Chairman Yat Siu and Twitch co-founder Justin Kahn.
Space Runners made its name last December when it launched its first NBA Champions sneaker collection alongside former NBA champions Kyle Kuzma and Nick Young. The company now plans to “do its part” in the virtual fashion industry:
“We will continue to design and release fashion items in the form of NFT collections. But we are also launching the first phase of a new project for our fashion metaverse. We are currently negotiating cooperation with several popular New York fashion agencies,” said Deniz Ozgur, CEO of Space Runners.
According to Ozgur, their metaverse will not be integrated into any of the existing virtual worlds, but will become a separate space. Also in the new metaverse promised its own currency.
Pantera Capital partner Paul Veraditakit stated that Space Runners’ vision creates a new way to interact with fashion on the blockchain:
“Fashion will have as much, if not more, importance in the metaverse as it does in real life.”
At the end of February, designer Philipp Plein announced that he was launching a line of sportswear in Decentraland.
