The Poly Network management offered the hacker, who stole and partially returned tokens worth $ 610 million, the position of chief security adviser and a reward of $ 500,000.
Last week, a hacker hacked into the Poly Network in the largest attack in the history of decentralized finance. Later, the attacker said that he did this not to embezzle users’ money, but out of interest in finding vulnerabilities in the project. The hacker has already returned most of the tokens he had eaten away, for which he received the nickname MrWhiteHat.
Poly Network developers have reported that over the past few days, the project has completed the second phase of the update, in accordance with the published roadmap. The developers keep in touch with MrWhiteHat on a daily basis and keep him informed of the progress of the work. In addition, the Poly Network team is actively working with security organizations to rebuild and upgrade the Poly Network.
Such a significant system upgrade cannot be done overnight. The developers hope that MrWhiteHat will return the remaining tokens in the near future. The project management expects that the “white hacker” will contribute to the future development of Poly Network, since he shares the idea of creating a secure and reliable system.
“We would like to express our gratitude to MrWhiteHat and invite him to the position of Chief Security Advisor for Poly Network. We will not bring him to legal responsibility, as we are confident that he will return all stolen crypto assets to Poly Network and its users. Considering the specifics of communications, at first there were misunderstandings between us. We share MrWhiteHat’s views on DeFi and the cryptocurrency world, which are initially aligned with Poly Network’s ambition to enable distributed ledger interoperability in Web 3.0, ”said Poly Network developers.
Previously, they were already ready to pay the hacker a reward of $ 500,000, but he refused and suggested that this money be spent on ensuring the technical security of the project. The Poly Network management followed this advice and launched a program to find bugs and vulnerabilities.
“To express our gratitude to MrWhiteHat, we will still transfer $ 500,000 to his address so that he can use this money at his own discretion or to support other projects and individuals. We sincerely hope that no cryptocurrency project will face such an incident. Whatever MrWhiteHat decides to do with the award received, we will have no objection, ”the developers added.
The US government is also ready to encourage the activities of “white hackers” and reward them with cryptocurrencies for finding vulnerabilities in government IT systems, as well as for reporting terrorists and extremists.
