The developers of the digital yuan wallet have released a pilot version of a mobile application for working with e-CNY. The app is available for both iOS and Android users.
According to a local publication BlockBeats, some Chinese residents may “open and manage” a digital yuan wallet. The mobile wallet also supports e-CNY exchange and forwarding functions. The application was developed by the Digital Currency Research Institute at the People’s Bank of China.
However, not all residents of China can download the application. The user must be physically located in one of 11 cities: Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiongan, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hainan, Changsha, Xi’an, Qingdao, and Dalian. The app is also available at the venue of the Winter Olympics.
The development of state cryptocurrencies is carried out by the central banks of many countries. However, it is in China that the project is at its final stage. Payments in the digital yuan have already been repeatedly tested in various cities of the Middle Kingdom, but Russia and the United States are still lagging behind in the creation of national digital currencies.
