The largest telecommunications company in Spain, Telefonica, has entered into an agreement with the local exchange Bit2Me, under which the Tu.com marketplace will be able to make payments in cryptocurrencies.
Tu.com focuses on the sale of high-tech products such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and electric scooters. Now site users will be able to pay for purchases using digital assets. Telefonica also invested in the largest Spanish exchange Bit2Me, but the amount of investments has not yet been disclosed.
Note that Telefonica has previously shown interest in the cryptocurrency industry and blockchain. The company recently launched its own non-fungible token (NFT) trading platform with MetaMask wallet support. Telefonica also partnered with microprocessor manufacturer Qualcomm to develop the SnapDragon Spaces augmented reality platform.
Recall that back in 2020, Telefonica and other European telecommunications companies tested the use of blockchain for roaming payments.
