The developers of the Minecraft Blockverse server sold NFTs for a total of $1.2 million, after which they stopped communicating, and the project’s website and Discord account were disabled.
According to a statement on the Blockverse blog, the project was created based on the “Play-to-Earn” model. It was supposed that players would be able to receive NFTs during the game, and then sell them. To enter the server, it was necessary to buy tokens, the sale of which began on January 24th. In total, 10,000 NFTs were issued, and the cost of each token was 0.05 ETH.
Within 8 minutes after the start of trading, all non-fungible tokens were sold. The creators of the server received a total of $ 1.2 million, after which they stopped communicating, and the project’s website and channel on Discord were disabled. The developers reported on Twitter that the server was up and running, but the players claim that it was never launched.
The deceived users created their own Discord channel to find the developers. They were joined by a user with the nickname Kashx, who stated that he was part of the Blockverse team of creators. He said that the developers did not plan to deceive the players, but they panicked when they began to receive angry messages and even death threats. According to Kashx, the team is ready to transfer the rights to the server and the proceeds from the sale of NFTs to players.
Recall that in mid-2020, the startup Enjin released a plugin that allowed players to integrate their assets on the blockchain into Minecraft.
