Cryptocurrency broker Voyager Digital, together with Market Rebellion, are launching a project that “blurs the line between traditional assets and cryptocurrencies.”
Voyager Digital plans to complete the joint venture by the end of 2022. The new entity will trade securities on behalf of Voyager clients. Users of the joint brokerage platform will be able to buy shares of companies listed on the Voyager platforms using the USDC stablecoin as a means of payment.
Voyager Digital founder and CEO Steve Ehrlich said the move shows how the line between conventional and digital assets is slowly disappearing. According to him, both cryptocurrency companies and traditional businesses are moving in new directions to diversify their sources of income and retain customers through a growing number of services:
“Including digital dollar stock trading is a natural extension of what we are doing now and what consumers will want in the near future.”
Elrich added that Voyager plans to offer users commission-free securities trading. The platform is going to receive profit due to the growth in the number of orders.
The head of Voyager promises that the new company will operate in accordance with all the recommendations of the regulatory authorities. He declined to share details of the transaction mechanism between USDC and securities, saying the information is confidential.
Erlich added that over the next eight weeks, Voyager is set to launch a cryptocurrency debit card in partnership with Mastercard and Metropolitan Commercial Bank. In the future, the company plans to enter the market of non-fungible tokens, as well as the markets of Europe and Canada.
In 2020, the decentralized platform Injective Protocol launched trading in tokenized shares of large companies paired with USDT. Last year, Binance launched fractional Tesla tokenized stock trading to expand access to traditional assets without having to buy them in their entirety. Later, the exchange expanded access to trading in such assets by placing Apple, Microsoft and MicroStrategy stock tokens on the platform.
