Worldcoin plans to expand its operations by enabling governments and companies to use its iris scanning and identity verification technology.
Ricardo Macieira, general manager of Tools For Humanity, behind the Worldcoin project, said the company’s mission is to “create the greatest possible financial and individual community.”
“The idea is that as we build this infrastructure, we allow third parties to use this technology,” he explained.
Maceira added that the company wants to ensure a wider use of the product by users.
“In the future, the technology behind the iris scan ball will be open source. And everyone will be able to use it for the benefit of the community,” he added.
Recently, there have been reports in the media that Worldcoin is trying to attract users to register on the platform. However, co-founder of the project Sam Altman (Sam Atman) denied these reports by posting a video in which people themselves stand in line for an iris scan.
Earlier, Kenya’s Minister of the Interior, Kiture Kindiki , said the government was concerned about Worldcoin’s activism and its potential implications for security, privacy and legality.
The French Privacy Protection Service (CNIL) also stated that the legality of collecting Worldcoin biometric data “seems questionable”.
