Since September 28, the support service of the American crypto exchange Coinbase has been receiving complaints from users about difficulties with the withdrawal and movement of crypto assets.
On the X network, a user named JimmyCorvidae shared the message he received as a Coinbase customer when attempting to make a cryptocurrency transfer:
Another user of the X network wrote that his attempt to withdraw bitcoins from the Coinbase exchange via the Lightning Network has been going on for 18 hours, but the transaction is still in the processing status.
Coinbase’s customer support team has advised users that these types of restrictions may be imposed in cases where the security system detects a potential threat of a user’s account being compromised. But it can also happen when a potential violation of the “know your customer” (KYC) policy is detected for the purpose of combating money laundering (AML). For example, in the latter case, transactions may be blocked if a Coinbase customer repeatedly interacts with “blacklisted addresses” marked on the blockchain as untrustworthy.
Cryptocurrency expert Adam Cochran noted that the restrictive measures seem annoying, but owners of uncompromised accounts usually resolve such issues without difficulty with a single request to support.
Kraken users experienced service issues in late September when, without any prior announcement, customers in Germany were unable to withdraw Bitcoin via Lightning Network services.
